Qualitative Research Skills - in house training

'I have only seen groups and I want to know how to get people to talk in depth and what to do if they dry up or go off the subject.'

'I've done some groups and I would like to know if I have been doing it right. I learnt from watching my boss, so I just do what she does but I don't really know why'

'Dealing with difficult people -the ones who talk too much and take over and the ones who won't talk.'

'We just really want to keep in touch with our customers and to provide a forum for raising any issues they are experiencing.'

Whatever your reasons for wanting training, or your level of experience, you benefit by having:

  • Some understanding of the theory behind interviewing /running groups so you know why you are doing things

  • Practice in a wide range of interviewing techniques so you can develop and monitor your own interviewing style

  • Practice in moderating with personal and group feedback, to apply the theory and develop confidence

  • The chance to choose relevant subject matter for the training

Training can be provided at 3 main levels:

  1. Foundation skills

  2. Developing skills and trying new techniques for those with some experience

  3. Development for senior researchers

Please contact Joanna for examples of training day plans that might be adapted to your needs.
